ONE YEAR ALREADY

HIND, MY MOTHER, I MISS YOU

Walid Phares

Today, December 17, 2008 is the first anniversary of the passing of my mother, Hind. A very hard moment in my life: Not being able to be with her when she departed this world.

My mother Hind durign her visit to Miami in 2001

Since 1990, I was separated from her because of my attachment to freedom. In seventeen years I saw her few times on distant lands.

The last picture with my mother in Paris, Summer 2006

In October 1990 I lost my father and I wasn't able to attend the burial as well. It was a choice for freedom also.

My destiny was to pay a high price for my choice for freedom: Not to be with my parents at their last moments on Earth. But both of them approve of my decisions. From the beginning they knew that I will sacrifice the most precious for my commitment, and I did.

I am now carrying these two wounds throughout my life. But I know that one day, we will meet again. There no force can separate us.
