Phares at Boston Conference: "Pro Jihadi lobbies in the US, associates to Genocide in the Middle East"
In his speech to the Boston Middle East Persecution Conference Professor Walid Phares focused on what he termed “an invasion” of “petrol dollars” into American academic institutions, particularly Middle East studies departments. He alleged this funding is behind the obstruction of the facts on the ground about genocide and violence against Christians and other minorities, as well as liberal Muslims throughout the Middle East ...) U.S. foreign policy in the Middle East has lately been characterized by a retreat from the support of civil society, Phares regretted. He pointed to U.S. diplomats who have met with Islamist militants who have gained or are gaining power in the Middle East, thereby legitimizing their authority. Meanwhile, Phares said, these same diplomats and envoys have neglected to meet with opposition elements to Islamist militants (...) Jihadi lobby groups have been trying for 21 years to block awareness of the region's oppression of minorities” Pharis said, which makes these groups, in his estimation, “an associate of Middle East genocide.”

Phares at Ayn Rand: "Arab spring forces are not monolithic, Islamists, seculars and minorities"
Professor Walid Phares at a panel on 9/11 and the Arab Spring at Ayn Rand Institute on September 8, 2011. "The forces inside the Arab Spring are not monolithic. Some, like the Muslim Brotherhood and Pan Arabists are old and well organized, others such as liberals are disorganized and minorities which are marginalized. The US and the West must partner with the liberals and the minorities to enable civil society rise, otherwise the Islamists will seize power and offset democracy."

Phares Comprehensive Remarks at Secular Islam Summit in Tampa 2007
Addressing the Second Secular Islam Summit held in Tampa, Florida on March 7, 2007, Professor Walid Phares called for four years before the Arab Spring in 2011, for a revolution by the peoples of the Muslim world for democracy and pluralism, in order to change the battlefield of international relations and isolate Jihadism. "Such change would help the Muslim world fit itself better in the modern age as Salafists and Khomeinist are rejecting obstructing reforms," he argued. "Al Qaeda and the Islamists reject international law because they do not accept higher laws than theirs. They want to establish two planets on one. It is Dar el Jihad versus the rest including Muslim seculars. Unfortunately Western academia misinformed the public about the challenges. While theological reforms may take a long time there are several pressing issues related to world security which needs to be addressed. One is Jihad, which cannot fit international laws and must be rejected as such. Second, is the so-called Kuffar notion, as it breaches human rights and Third is a Caliphate imposed by force."
