Today is a day which we should mark on the calendar and remember for a long time. For on this day, it became abundantly clear that the Iranian-Syrian axis now controls Lebanon through Hezbollah, and Al Qaeda and the Taliban now control the Northwest provinces in Pakistan (see ABC News and the AP story). Both groups of terrorists won through sustained asymmetric (and, in Lebanon, conventional) warfare which eventually collapsed the will of the opposition, which was not supported in any material way by the United States and other nations. I want to concentrate on the events in Lebanon in this post.

After few days of discussions in Doha, Qatar, the Lebanese Government of Fuad Seniora collapsed under pressures by the Hezbollah led opposition. An agreement, fully in favor of Hezbollah was signed by the various Lebanese politicians.

Dr Walid Phares, the Director of the Future Terrorism Project at the Foundation for the Defense of Democracies answered questions during the Press Conference by Representative Sue Myrick, Co-chair of the US House Caucus on Counter Terrorism. Rep Myrick presented a ten points agenda. Dr Phares, invited to participate in the Press Conference as an advisor, addressed the particular point of ideological Jihadism.
