Professor Walid Phares, auhtor of 'The Coming Revolution: Struggle for Freedom in the Middle East' to Russia Today TV: "The Muslim Brotherhood, or Ikhwan, have seized the revolution from the hands of youth and seculars. Military and Islamists are partnering to push democracy agencies from Egypt for fear that the latter will help the next demonstrations against them. Phares on FoxNews' "On the Hunt": "Ikhwan and military are pushing democracy NGOs out of Egypt to end training to youth"
Professor Walid Phares on Fox News' "On the Hunt" with Jonathan Hunt: "The Ikhwan and military are pushing democracy NGOs, such as IRI and NDI out of Egypt to end training to youth. The Muslim Brotherhood who have control over the Parliament, and their associates in the military fear a future wave of secular democracy demonstrations and thus are trying to remove international advocacy groups who could provide training to the young men and women of Egypt. Ironically the IRI had provided political training to Muslim Brotherhood, among others, for years. Now the Brotherhood wants to shut them down."

Phares on the first annivesary of Egypt's Revolt: "Civil society started it and the Islamists seized it"
Professor Walid Phares on the first annivesary of Egypt's Revolt of January 2011: "It is clear that Egyptian civil society, with its youth, women, middle class and labor started it while the political parties were on the sidelines. Gradually, as liberals and seculars were divided and not supported by the international community and the Copts intimidated, the Muslim Brotherhood and the Salafists, well organized and funded, moved forward and received US recognition. Civil society forces pushed against authoritarianim in Egypt, but Islamists seized the political process and soon, the country." (Dr Walid Phares interviewed in Context with Laura, Toronto)
