Phares on the Denver Conference statements on Terrorism
Aug 28, 2008, 12:24
After thoroughly reviewing all speeches and analyzing statements about the War on terror and Homeland Security, delivered at the Denver Convention until Wednesday evening, Terrorism Expert Dr Walid Phares offered his evaluation of theses statements. His remarks are strictly focusing on Terrorism and National Security issues, not covering any partisan, political and economic issue.
Main Points made in the radio interview dated Thursday morning.
* We didn't see a definition of the enemy and the threat. We didn't hear words such as Jihadism, Islamism, Salafism, Khomeinism etc.
* Criticism of Iraq War: Some criticism is logical but we didn't hear about the strategic alternative offered along with criticism?
* Engaging the Iranian regime: Will talking to the regime change the strategy of Ahmedinijad? We didn't see an explanation of this policy proposal.
* Afghanistan: what is the alternative strategy? How will the additional forces be used?
* The new direction seem to abandon the concept of a confrontation with a global ideology and focus on local crises.
A broader analysis will be issued soon.
