In an interview on France 24 TV Arabic Professor Walid Phares said the Imam Mohammed Hussein Fadlallah, mentor of Hezbollah, born in Najaf, was an ideologue and also an Islamist scholar. "The US didn't confront him as an intellectual but Fadlallah was the one who waged an ideological war by declaring America 'evil in essence' and condoning the Terror attacks of 1983 and the hostages taking in the 1980s with fatwas. The Jihadists are praising him as a hero while the victims of terror see him as a doctrinaire of Terrorism."
